Want leds to live longer´╝čWhat you must know about LED corrosion protection
Avoiding LED corrosion is an important part of improving LED reliability. This paper analyzes the causes of corrosion of LED, and gives the main methods to avoid corrosion -- to prevent LED from approaching harmful substances, and effectively limit the concentration level of harmful substances and the ambient temperature.
Q: how do you prevent LED corrosion?
Keywords: LED, corrosion, product performance, photoelectric components
The reliability of LED products is one of the important specifications for estimating the life of LED products.Even in most different conditions, the general LED products can continue to operate. However, once the LED is corroded, the chemical reaction of the LED caused by the surrounding environment will degrade the performance of LED products.
The best way to avoid corrosion is to keep leds away from harmful substances.Even small amounts of harmful substances can cause LED corrosion.Even when leds are only exposed to corrosive gases during processing, such as machines in production lines, this can have adverse effects. In these cases, it is often possible to see if the LED component is damaged before setting up the actual system. In particular, Sulfur contamination should be avoided.
Here are some examples of potentially corrosive substances (especially hydrogen sulfide) including:
  • o-ring
  • The gasket
  • Organic rubber
  • Foam pad
  • The sealing rubber
  • Anti-shock pad
If some harmful substances cannot be completely avoided, leds with higher corrosion resistance should be used.Keep in mind, however, that the effect of limiting corrosion depends on the concentration of the harmful substance.Even if you choose a more durable LED, you should minimize the exposure of these LED materials.
In general, heat, humidity, and light can accelerate the corrosion process. However, the main influencing factors are the concentration level of harmful substances and temperature, which will be an important way to protect LED.
